SPF? HUH? What is it anyway??

Funny Sun Taken from here

What’s an SPF Anyway?

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. The number is determined experimentally indoors by exposing human subjects to a light spectrum meant to mimic noontime sun. Some subjects wear sunscreen and others do not. The amount of light that induces redness in sunscreen-protected skin, divided by the amount of light that induces redness in unprotected skin is the SPF. It is mainly a measure of UVB protection and ranges from 1 to 45 or above.

A sunscreen with an SPF of 15 filters 92% of the UVB. Put another way, a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 will delay the onset of a sunburn in a person who would otherwise burn in 10 minutes to burn in 150 minutes. The SPF 15 sunscreen allows a person to stay out in the sun 15 times longer.

Is higher SPF better?

Sunscreens with a higher SPF should offer more protection from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation, which is linked to the vast majority of skin cancers, as well as premature skin aging and eye damage.  But the answer is not that simple.

Crochet Heart Snowflake

Greetings fellow crochet lover!!

Sorry I haven't post anything crochet in a while, I've been a bit addicted in beauty blogging activity, plus I haven't crochet anything too....

Today's pattern is called Cold Heart Flake and it's actually a hanging ornament for a valentine's day theme but I make it into a necklace instead. Although it does seem a bit big doesn't it??

I made this using crochet steel hook #4 (2.5 mm) and local cotton yarn. I'm having a hard time in making this heart snowflake, especially the heart shape part. This is also my first attempt on blocking a crochet applique so the heart snowflake is not as stiff as I wanted to.

This pattern is created by Snowcatcher and she posted it in her "Snowflake Monday" post. If you like snowflake pattern then you should definitely visit her blog. She has a lot of interesting crochet snowflake pattern.

My Journey With Acne

As you guys can see from the post title, I'm gonna share about my journey and experience in dealing with acne. How I use to look like, how my skin condition use to be, my skin problem and how I deal and struggle with acne. So beware I think it's gonna be a pretty long post and lots and lots of photos.

At young I never had any skin problem, even when I'm in junior and senior high school I almost never use moisturizer. Just sunblock and I even often forget to put in on. I don't put up any make-up whatsoever on my face, my usual routine are I wake up - take a bath - change clothes - put on sunblock (if I remember) - put some lipbalm - spritz some body mist - go to school.

Aside from the occasional acne that comes when I have my monthly period I don't really have acne problem.  My skin is pretty normal too, not oily and not dry so I never bother to put on any moisturizer. I'd rather save my money to buy manga he he he (I'm an otaku!! >.<)

I started to get self conscious about beauty stuff at 17 I guess, it's my 3rd year in high school when I started to use moisturizer, sunblock, and some compact powder more regularly. But still... there's nothing wrong with my skin.

At my University days I get more and more conscious about my skin and appearance so I started to wear some mascara and lip gloss to campus. But my skin is pretty much still okay and normal.

Review: VESS Pucucu Foaming Ball

Wanna know what these cute pink and blue round thingy?? It's called Pucucu Foaming Ball from VESS, basically it's a sponge ball that you use to make your facial wash to foams a lot.... Just a teensy weensy facial wash combine with this foaming ball will create a huge amount of foam!! The foam are smooth and nice too... Feels good to your skin. I bough this at sasa.com for US$ 4.1 (IDR 38.950), kinda expensive though but this will help my facial wash last longer since I only use a tiny amount of facial wash.

This foaming ball comes in a plastic package which is pretty hard to open and I had a tiny cut on my finger just by opening this thing. *darnn....

Here's the production description taken from here:

Crochet Jasmine

Good Evening....

I'm gonna share more flower pattern that I got from Crochet Accessories book by Ratu Sri Hastutie. This pattern is called Bunga Melati in Bahasa which means Jasmine Flower. In her book she made this flower into an earring, but you can actually modified it into necklace, bracelet, brooch or even an embellishment for napkins or clothes.

What I love about this flower is that it's super easy to make and doesn't take a lot of yarn. You can make this flower from any leftover yarn. If you're interested in this pattern you can buy her book at any book store but I'm gonna share my version of her pattern since she us UK pattern for her book while I prefer US pattern.

More EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil) Benefits

Image taken from here
Good day fellas..!!

Are you having a good day today?

Well I'm not... But it's ok, I'm making this new blog post to calm myself and ease my mind.

If you've already my post on EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil) before, you probably know that EVOO has a lot of benefits for your health and beauty. I only post what I personally do with EVOO on my previous post, but I'm gonna post more of EVOO benefits and use in this post. So be prepare to read a pretty long post people....

EVOO for Beauty:
Pure and natural beauty aids are an alternative if you are trying to avoid additives, preservatives and other elements that may be harmful to skin and bodies. Olive oil is a natural lipid; its chemical composition is very close to our body's natural oil, called sebum, which allows our skin to absorb olive oil easily. Olive oil can help lock moisture into our skin and keep it soft and smooth. Olive oil also contains antioxidants and stimulates skin's production of elastin and collagen, two important natural components of plump, smooth, young-looking skin.

Twotone Crochet Keychain

I tend to loose my key or even a keychain that I'm gonna put the key on... Clumsy me... So rather than buying one again and again... Make one instead! This keychain uses two yarn color and has two different pattern on each side. I'm not really know which one the front side and which one is the back side, but either way this is a cute keychain!!

I forgot what hook size I use, but I think it's between #4-#5 (2.5mm - 3mm) and two colors of local cotton yarn. The keychain are made in continuous rounds and join by sewing. I wanted a flatter keychain so I don't put fiberfill on the inside while sewing like the original one.

If you're interested, this crochet keychain is created by Midnight Knitter and you can see the pattern here. But if you like to buy one though you can visit  Pernak Pernik Sekar.

Crochet Ruffle Bracelet

Hello.... I'm gonna share to you this cute bracelet pattern that I found. The bracelet name is actually Crowned Jewel Bracelet but I think it's more toward a ruffle than a crown. I think if I made this bracelet in a bigger size or a thicker yarn the shape will be more like a crown that a ruffle.

I use steel crochet hook #5 (3mm) and local cotton yarn to make this bracelet, the original pattern uses one of those snap piece button to join this bracelet but I make a button hole and a button from the same yarn to join this bracelet. You can also adjust the size of this bracelet by using bigger / smaller crochet hook or by adding / reducing chain numbers.

If you're interested in making this "Crowned Jewel Bracelet" by Cooksterz, you can visit her blog here or get her pattern here.  But if you're interested in buying one you can visit my shop Pernak Pernik Sekar.

Review: L'Oreal Dermo Expertise Gentle Lip and Eye Make-Up Remover for Waterproof Make-Up

Wazzupp.....
It's time for another review from me... It's Review:  L'Oreal Dermo Expertise Gentle Lip and Eye Make-Up Remover for Waterproof Make-Up, fiuhhh..... that's along name.

This make-up remover is my favorite make-up remover so far. I forgot how much it cost but I think it's around $5 (IDR 50.000) or so. Pretty expensive for me since I'm still a student but luckily my mom asks me to take her to the supermarket and I put a bottle if this to the shopping cart along with other groceries. He.. he.. he... *evil laugh.

Agh.. Gonna Need to Buy a New One Soon.....

What I Do With Baking Soda... and More......

Image Taken From Here
The red part is my updated part.

Has anybody ever heard of bicarbonate of soda? Probably not, but if it's baking soda I'm sure you've heard of it. Baking soda is a white powder that is traditionally used as a raising agent for baking. Many people actually forget that baking soda was originally intended for just that, baking! It has so many other uses today that baking is probably not even one of the top three anymore. You see it in toothpastes, laundry detergents, air fresheners.

There are many reasons to use baking soda in your home, but the number one reason is because this is a natural substance that will not harm you, your family or the environment because is it not a chemical compound that effects nature. Baking soda is actually a compound that is found through out nature, in the ocean, in the soil, in our foods, and in our bodies. Baking soda is a neutralizer of many other compounds, which is helpful in our daily living. I even buys it in bulk for stocking up since it's so versatile.

Is it Safe?

Baking soda is a safe product that you can even eat. Baking soda is used in a huge variety of foods that we eat every day. You could even take a teaspoon of baking soda and eat it if you like. While eating this teaspoon of baking soda right from the box might not agree with your taste buds, it is not going to cause your body any harm what so ever.

Baking soda is inexpensive and cheap. Broadening your use of baking soda, not only for baking but also in cleaning and for your own personal hygiene can help you save a lot of money in your household grocery and cleaning bills.

Enough with the talking, I will share you what I personally do with baking soda and many other uses for it.

Mouthwash:
When I run out of mouthwash I mix about 1/2 tsp of baking soda with water as a mouthwash replacement.

Toothpaste:
I dip my toothbrush into baking soda and add my usual toothpaste and brush my teeth with this mixture, regular use of this mixture will whiten your teeth.

Scrub / Exfoliator:
I mix baking soda and water to form a paste and apply it gently at my face or other rough parts like knees and elbows and rub it in a circular motion.

Bath:
I add about 1/2 cup to my bathwater to soften the skin.

Facial / Acne Mask:
I mix baking soda and water to form a thicker paste and apply it to the face as facial mask, but this mask is too rough for my skin lately so I only make a small amount of this paste and dab it into acne.

Hair Rinse / Shampoo:
  • I mix about 1 tbsp of baking soda and water and rinse my hair with this solution before shampooing, sort of a pre-shampoo treatment to remove those hair products buildup.
  • As a shampoo I sprinkle some baking soda to my shampoo and shampoo my hair as usual. This method also help remove hair products buildup.

Crochet Flower and Leaves Necklace

Good afternoon people....!!

Here's another free crochet pattern for you. It's flower and leaves necklace, but you can make this into anything you want, you can put it in bags, shoes, clothes or make it into a brooch. I made this flower using steel crochet hook no. 5 (2.5mm) and local cotton yarn. It's fairly easy to make and don't took a lot of yarn.

The flower and leaves is actually a two part section, flower section and leaves section. After you done making both section just join both part by sewing or gluing. But since I'm lazy I prefer to just glue them together. I think these will also looks cute if I add more layer of flower and leaves in it.

This pattern is created by Michelle Ryan at her blog Nezumi World. If you want to make one you can go visit Nezumi World here. But if you're interested in buying this, you can visit my shop Pernak Pernik Sekar.
