Review: Kojie San Skin Lightening Soap

This particular soap has been rave about since a few years back and it's finally available in Indonesia!! Although I only seen it at Guardian so far. Anyway even though it's available in Indonesia, the one that I got for the review is the one that comes directly from Philippines. Not that it has any difference though, but I got this soap for awhile now it was a gift but since people said it burns when you used it I always hesitant in using it. But..... I finally have the courage to try it on earlier this month and here's what I thought about the soap.

Description:
The Kojic Acid soap you've always trusted, the one prescribed by your dermatologist is now availble in Kojie San Skin Lightening Soap. Kojie San has an all-natural kojic acid formula that helps lighten dark spots due to acne, age spots, freckles, sun-damaged skin, and other skin pigmentation. Kojic Acid was discovered in Japan. It is a by-product of Koji, or Malted Rice, for use in the manufacture of rice wine. In cosmetics, Kojic Acid is popularly known for its excellent whitening effects and anti oxidant properties. Kojie San Skin Lightening Soap helps lighten dark spots due to acne, age spots, freckles, sun-damaged skin, and other skin pigmentation.

Ingredients:
Kojic Acid, Sweet Orange, VCO, Glycerine, Vegetable Extract and Vitamin C.

Safety Warning:
Kojic acid has a drying effect on skin. Skin irritation is the most common kojic acid side effect. Many people have noticed an increase in skin sensitivity after using kojic acid regularly. As kojic acid reduces the amount of melanin in your skin, it weakens your skin's natural defense. It is therefore important to remember to wear sunscreen with a high SPF value.

Packaging:
The soap comes in a white box with a geisha picture on the front. The soap like typical kojic acid soap is orange in color and also has a strong citrus scent. What I also like about the Kojie San Soap is that each soap (I got two in one box) is wrapped in a plastic seal so it's definitely hygienic.

About Kojie San and Kojic Acid:
Kojic acid, a natural antibiotic agent, comes from koji, a culture prepared by growing molds on cooked grains or soybeans under humid conditions. Used in Japan to produce miso, soy sauce and sake, koji came into the mainstream in 1955 when Charles Pfizer and Company tried to manufacture it as an organic acid. Although the company succeeded, there was no real commercial use for kojic acid until the early 1980s, when the cosmetic industry discovered its ability to inhibit tyrosinase, the enzyme responsible for melanin formation. Nowadays it is a common ingredient in skin lightening/fading products, face and body moisturizers, anti-aging creams and lotions, around-eye creams, facial cleansers, sunscreens and other skin care products. Its main purpose, according to KojicAcid.org, is to treat hyperpigmentation, which occurs when areas of the skin develop too much melanin. Melanin is the substance that gives skin color, such as moles, age spots and freckles.Kojie San itself was the first first Kojic Acid soap to be made available commercially in the Philippines.

Kojic acid digs deeper to help skin have faster cellular turnover. The new skin formed would be whiter, flawless, and much better than the old skin. It may take longer time to achieve optimum whitening. It may take days, weeks, or months until you can achieve your whitest white. Peeling might last longer than you expect. However, these are all normal signs of kojic acid use. It is best to take all necessary precaution to protect new formed skin from irritants. For successful whitening, it is best that you shouldn’t expose your new skin to direct sunlight. It is also advisable that you refrain from harsh chemicals, astringents, or exfoliant agents as it may be damaging to kojic acid-treated skin. When it comes to supplementary methods to protect your skin, it is best to invest in a reliable moisturizer. Exfoliation can sometime cause skin dehydration which can leave skin cracked and with open sores. Minimize this problem by lathering on an effective moisturizer every now and then.

My Thoughts:
At first I was afraid that it would sting but maybe because I've been using several other Kojic Acid Soap and Glutathione soap before Kojie San I didn't feel any harsh feeling whatsoever. The peeling process starts after a few days of using this soap and of course it makes my skin dries a bit but nothing that can't be handle with a slap of good moisturizer! Oh and since I've use a similar soap before I knew that Kojic Acid soap melts easily but Kojie San melts way too easily compare to the Kojic Acid Soap that I've tried before like Bevi Kojic Acid Soap, Kojic Acid Soap with Glutathione and Cyleina Kojic Acid Soap. As for the whitening properties I didn't notice any dramatic results like other people's review since my skin is already quite pale to begin with but it does helps in lightening a dark scars on my leg and blemish marks on my back.

What I Like:
- helps lighten blemish and scars
- exfoliate skin
- available in local store

What I Don't Like:
- slightly drying
- strong citrus scent
- melts super easily

Where to Buy?
Guardian Pharmacy

How Much?
I don't really remember but it's around IDR 45.000 - 65.000 depends on the type and size.
